The Way Roots Grow: Poetry Event is an intimate gathering of poets, storytellers, and live performers offering work rooted in memory, lineage, identity, and becoming. Held inside the exhibition The Way Roots Grow, this event invites guests into a shared space of listening, reflection, and connection.
Words carry what the body remembers. Through spoken word, storytelling, and live artistic expression, each performer brings forward stories shaped by ancestry, personal growth, and lived experience. The performances exist in conversation with the artwork surrounding the space, allowing voice and visual art to inform and deepen one another.
Headlined by Bryttney-Mischele Salvant, this event will feature a special reading from her poetry book The Way Roots Grow, a collection ten years in the making. Her work honors the roots we inherit, the paths we travel, and the ways we continue to transform.
Guests are invited to slow down, be present, and experience poetry as a living, breathing practice—one that connects us to ourselves, to each other, and to the stories still unfolding.
This event is open to all who appreciate poetry, performance, and community-centered art. Come listen, reflect, and share space with artists whose work grows from deep, personal roots.
